Bend Series / 100 Day Project #10

150.00

The Bend Series began last summer in my sketchbook. Gone from New Zealand only a couple months and still adjusting to my new surroundings, I was struggling to find my voice in the studio. My usual colorful abstracts started taking the back seat as minimal line studies began filling the pages. My first few paintings stalled as I wasn't sure where I wanted to go with them. By the end of the year, stacks of explorations started piling up with strong, imperfect, bending lines staring back at me. I saw a sense of grace and peace in them. The lines, thin and thick, in solid neutral colors against bright washes, took on personality and relationship to one another. The Bend Series reflects my journey back to California and ultimately back to myself as I find strength in my artistic voice amidst so much change, adjustment and renewal.

My explorations in the Bend Series are in the timeline with  #the100dayproject found on Instagram. In the spirit of the Bend Series, with grace and imperfection, I’m joining in this massive effort to make a piece of artwork everyday for 100 days. My project is #100daysoflines-  swoops, scratches, squiggles, sticks- all of ‘em. It may change over the project but I’m giving myself something nice and broad to explore and play.  Of course all kinds of doubts and fears are sneaking up: what if I don’t finish, what if I lose interest, what if my work is hurried it shows, what if people get annoyed seeing me in their feed everyday, what if what if what if...But what if this is the kick in the butt I’ve been needing to get on a consistent studio routine? What if I dig deep and take risks and find new pathways to my work? My hubby and I always tell our kids ‘you can’t be brave without being scared.’ I’m gonna practice what I preach, y’all. Each finished piece will be available for sale on my website. Please don’t hesitate to ask for additional photos or information. Mixing and matching pieces is also encouraged! They look great in pairs or groupings.
